The House of Chettinad began its journey in a humble way in the year 1912 by its founder Dr. Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar, who was a Visionary, Idealist, Entrepreneur, Educationist and Philanthropist of 19th century, who envisioned that the future of his group is to improve the society economically by providing industrial and business development. The core values of the House of Chettinad Strive, Save & Serve continue to remain the same since 1912 with its dynamic vision changing according to times. The group continued the legacy, made the dreams of our beloved founder into reality and reached further heights by another Visionary, Idealist, Entrepreneur, Educationist and Philanthropist by Dr. Raja Sir Muthiah Chettiar, the son of the founder. The growth of Chettinad Group was taken forward with the untiring efforts by the grandson of the founder, Dr. M.A.M. Ramaswamy, a multi-faceted personality an Entrepreneur, Educationist, Philanthropist, Sportsman and his love towards protecting the arts, culture and values of Tamil.

“Chettinad Cement Corporation Private Limited” (Formerly known as Chettinad Cement Corporation Limited) was incorporated in 1962 to cater to growing demand of Cement in the Country. The Company’s first manufacturing unit located at Puliyur, Karur District, in Tamil Nadu commenced production in April 1968. Today Chettinad Cement Corporation Private Limited is the flagship company of the most vibrant and dynamic group in South India steered under the versatile, dynamic and pragmatic Leadership of its Managing Director Sri M.A.M.R. Muthiah. Apart from cement, the Group is today engaged in activities as diverse as granite, engineering, silica, construction, education, health care, plantations, shipping, power, transportation, stevedoring, clearing and forwarding and logistics.

The company had made a modest beginning with Cement Plant of 2 lakhs Tonnes Per Annum at Puliyur Village, Karur District, Tamilnadu. With further modernisation, and installation of additional Cement Grinding Unit of 0.5 MTPA in 2009-10, the capacity at Puliyur Plant as of date is 1.10 MTPA.
The Company had then installed a Cement Plant with a capacity of 0.9 MTPA during 2001 at Karikkali Village, Dindigul District, Tamilnadu and installed an additional Cement Grinding Unit to increase its capacity to 1.40 MTPA during 2008.
The Company later commissioned its second cement manufacturing unit with a capacity of 1.88 MTPA adjacent to its existing factory site at Karikkali Village, during the financial year 2010-11 taking the total capacity of the Karikkali plant to 3.28 MTPA.
During 2008-2009 & 2009-2010, company has installed two Green Field Cement Plants at Kilapaluvur Village, Ariyalur District, Tamilnadu at a total capacity of 4 MTPA.
The Company has commissioned its Green field Cement manufacturing Unit with a capacity of 1.29 MTPA at Kallur Village, Gulbarga District, Karnataka, during the financial year 2011-12.
During the year 2014-15, the Company acquired 75% Equity Stake in Anjani Portland Cement Limited, a listed company, having a 1 MTPA Integrated Cement Manufacturing Unit at Chintalapalem Village & Mandal, Suryapet District, Telangana.
The Company has commissioned, a Cement Grinding Unit at Solapur, Maharashtra during the year 2016-17 with a capacity of 1 MTPA to cater to the markets in interior Maharashtra. The company has also commissioned 1 MTPA brown field grinding unit at Solapur during the year 2019-20. However the total effective grinding capacity at Solapur is 0.86 MTPA due to limitations in Clinkerisation capacity.
The Company has commissioned the Cement Grinding Unit during the year 2018-19 and the Clinkerisation process during the year 2019-20 at its greenfield integrated cement manufacturing plant being set up at Dachepalli Village, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh with a capacity of 1.76 MTPA to cater to the markets in Andhra Pradesh. The Integrated Greenfield Cement manufacturing facility as a whole was commissioned in March 2020.
The company has installed a Cement Grinding unit with a capacity of 1.18 MTPA at Anakapalli Village, Vizag district, Vishakapatnam. to have a foothold in the industrial hub of Vishakapatnam, this said unit came in production from Sep 2021.and the company is looking at improving its market share in the newly formed state of Andhra Pradesh, having a huge potential for Infrastructure development.
With this, the total cement manufacturing capacity of the company is 13.47 Million Tonnes Per Annum at its seven units situated at Puliyur, Karikkali, Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu, Kallur Village, Gulbarga District in Karnataka, Solapur in Maharashtra, Dachepalli, and Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and all the figures are based on the maximum operating capacities with the available Clinker.
The Company has installed captive power plants totalling to 165MW across all its Units.
As a policy to promote Green Energy, the company has commissioned 3 MW Solar Power plant at Kallur in Karnataka and 3.0 MW Solar Power Plant at Sholapur
The company has installed a 19MW “Waste Heat Recovery System”, to cater to the requirement of Power for its Cement plant at Dachepalli.
The Company, which has always been striving for Total Quality, possesses International Certification ISO 9001: 2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 50001: 2018 and takes pride in being acclaimed as one of the major player in a highly competitive Cement Industry in India.
The company has installed a Mineral Sand producing Unit with a capacity of 1 Million Ton during the FY 20-21 at Karikkali for converting waste to wealth. Mineral Sand and its allied products produced are catered to the markets in and around Karikkali.
Chettinad Cement has attached great importance to corporate social responsibility and environmental values. This is manifest in the installation of the latest pollution control equipment at all its plants and social welfare work conducted in the villages and towns around all its plants.

Considering the need for quality education, the group established Chettinad College of Engineering and Technology at Puliyur in Karur District and also an institution for higher learning in medical and paramedical sciences under the name of Chettinad Academy and Research Institute (CARE). Hospital attached to the academy is providing world class health care services in the multi-speciality hospital managed by the group. Besides these, the group is also managing schools for children and a special school for differently abled children. Thus, the group will accelerate industrial and economic growth, providing quality education, health care especially to Tamilnadu and this country. Our Managing Director is also very much interested in extending the Corporate Social Responsibility to the community around which it operates and better environment management to ensure sustainable development.
