CHETTINAD LIGNITE TRANSPORT SERVICES PRIVATE LTD

Chettinad Lignite Transport Services Private Ltd is a Special Purpose Vehicle incorporated for Lignite transportation from the Neyveli lignite mines to M/s. ST-CMS 250MW lignite fired power plant at Uthangal near Neyveli, Tamilnadu.

LIGNITE TRANSPORTATION:

The lignite, which is the basic fuel for the said power plant, is lifted from Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd's Mine-1A. This mine is located about 4 KM from the Lignite loading facility at Vadalur. The annual requirement of lignite for the power plant is about 1.5 million MT. The raw lignite is lifted and carried to the lignite loading facility at Vadalur with the help of loaders and tippers to the dump hopper area for dumping.

LIGNITE LOADING FACILITY:

The lignite loading facility basically does conveying, storing, extracting / unloading from storage and transporting through rail wagons. For the above operation various types of conveying systems with varying capacities are being used. The lignite that is dumped is taken to three silos with capacity of 800MT each. Under the silos, there are rapid loading system. With the help of emergency gates, clamshell gates and photo eyes the lignite from three silos is being loaded on to the BOBRN open top, bottom opening 55MT net weight carrying capacity railway wagons. Diesel electric engines of WDG-2 3300 MT type haul a formation of 58 wagons of the said type. A 2 KM siding with crossing with 52 KG rails is used for this purpose. An in-motion railway bridge of 100T capacity weighing system weighs the lignite that is carried by these wagons. Air blasters, Dust Suppression system and Fire fighting systems form the part of the total system in operation at Vadalur.

LIGNITE UNLOADING FACITLIY AT UTHANGAL:

The lignite unloading facility at Uthangal, Neyveli is about 15 KM away from the lignite loading station i.e. Vadalur. The wagons enter and are placed at the unloading station at a length of 70 mtrs. after they were weighed once again in in-motion weigh bridge (100T capacity) at Uthangal. This is to ensure and confirm that the lignite loaded at Vadalur is unloaded at Uthangal and the transit losses are limited within the accepted norms. Then the lignite is carried through various types of 1.5 KM length conveyors to stock yard and Boiler of ST-CMS power plant.
